With its big, glossy leaves like a fiddle-leaf fig and tidy habit, I've often thought this NZ'er should have taken off as a feature plant in contemporary style gardens or tropical style gardens in cooler-climates. It's been distributed as one of the 'Touch of Class' plants range in Australia but I just haven't seen – or noticed – it in gardens here. Actually from small islands off the top of NZ's North Island, it's adapted to moderated conditions: no frost and protection from the hottest summer sun where days often push over 30 degrees, though it can take a bit of a buffeting from salt winds.
