The autumn transition of Nandina ‘Gulf Stream' is under way, with reds and oranges creeping over its yellow-green canopy as the season gets colder. It's evergreen and the fiery colours fade as it warms up again. This variety of Sacred Bamboo doesn't get the flowers or red berries of the much taller species. It has the same compact, symmetrical form as its parent: the Dwarf Sacred Bamboo. But it is slightly taller, with its many upright stems holding their leaves straight and upward – much more like real bamboos. A low maintenance but generous little shrub perfect for an oriental effect.
