carnival red pincushion

It's a brake on being parochial about Australian natives. Take the pincushion bush. They're kinda like ours could pass as one of us. But they're South African. And every bit as strange and beautiful as a waratah or banksia.
This fine specimen is Leucospermum 'Carnival Red'. 'Carnival' is fair enough but 'Red' understates it. The flowers start all orange pins until they open out to reveal the red cushion - producing a riotous bonus that the plant seems to bear two types of flowers.
